Mindfulness

At the heart of CHILL is mindfulness. Mindfulness means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations and surrounding environment. By becoming mindful, we can choose our response to what is going on inside us and around us rather than react habitually or unskillfully to those events and circumstances.

When teachers learn mindfulness

CHILL supports teachers by providing them with ways they can help support their students' mindfulness skills, giving them ideas for bringing more mindfulness into their classrooms and offering suggestions for ways they can develop their own mindfulness practice.

Providing educators with mindfulness training can help increase their sense of well-being, their ability to manage classroom behavior, develop skills to help reduce stress and establish and maintain positive and supportive relationships with students. Teachers will be learning these skills alongside their students, which provides a unique and meaningful opportunity for students and teachers to connect in a new way that benefits the social and emotional health of everyone, both inside the classroom and out.

MINDFULNESS At Home

MINDFULNESS At Home

Bringing mindfulness into your home supports what your child is learning at school and helps you learn to recognize and appreciate the beautiful moments that can pass by without being noticed. It can also help parents through moments when they are at their wits' end and don't know what to do by learning how to recognize what is happening in the moment.

Mindfulness also helps create a wonderful opportunity to connect with one another through the many emotions a family feels. Talking with your children about how you're feeling and how you're going to take care of those feelings sets a wonderful example and helps you learn to take care of your own feelings in a healthy way, too.
