More than ever kids today are in need of a healthy approach to managing stress. The practice of mindfulness is now becoming a potential solution for kids who in the past may have been diagnosed with ADHD or anxiety.

In 1979, Jon Kabat-Zinn founded the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts to bring a form of meditation known as mindfulness into the medical mainstream. As they define it, "Mindfulness is a basic human quality, a way of learning to pay attention to whatever is happening in your life that allows you a greater sense of connection to your life inwardly and outwardly. Mindfulness is also a practice, a systematic method aimed at cultivating clarity, insight, and understanding."

Mindful Schools was founded in 2007 as a program of a single school in Oakland CA, as a solution to their challenging, unfocused and unengaged student body. Today, it is a not-for-profit training organization with online and in-person courses, content, and a network of mindful educators, primarily on the coasts and now in the Midwest. The Mindful Schools curriculum, developed by world-class educators, scientists and practitioners, teaches elementary school students to cultivate focus, resilience and well-being for academic success.
